Non-Injury Collision on I-24 in Lyon County

(Hickory, KY) - On Novemeber 17th, 2014 at 5:37pm, Trooper Daniel Holland responded to Interstate 24 east bound at the 45 mile marker to a report of an over turned semi on the right shoulder of the roadway. The operator, Mr. Alfred P. Sumabat Jr, age 64, of Burns, TN, stated that after cresting a hill he noticed traffic was backed up along the interstate from an earlier collision. In an attempt to avoid a collision with stationary traffic, Mr. Sumabat swearved and exited the roadway off the right shoulder and over turned. Due to recovery efforts, Interstate 24 east bound lanes where closed, or partially closed, from 7:37pm to 9:02pm. The operator of the semi was not injured during the collision. Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, Eddyville Fire Department, Kuttawa Fire Department, Lyon County Rescue Squad, and Lyon County EMS. Trooper Holland leads the collision investigation.
