Vehicle vs Train Collision

Mortons Gap, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a collision involving a vehicle and a train that occurred at a railroad crossing on KY 813 in Mortons Gap, on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 10:07 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that David Richardson, 66, of Mortons Gap, KY, was operating a 2002 Jeep Wrangler northbound on KY 813. While he was stopped at the railroad crossing as a CSX train was passing, he experienced a medical emergency.
Mr. Richardson's vehicle rolled under the gate and struck the side of one of the train cars. There were no injuries reported. Mr. Richardson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated for his medical condition.
Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the collision. The Mortons Gap Volunteer Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
