Two Vehicle Injury Collision On Pennyrile Parkway

Mortons Gap, KY (Hopkins County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, at approximately the 34 mile-marker, on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 3:45 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Willie L. Holland, 49, of Hopkinsville, was operating a dump truck northbound on the parkway. Richard L. Gregory, 50, of Greenville, was operating a dump truck northbound on the parkway traveling behind Mr. Holland's vehicle. Both vehicles were traveling through the construction zone.
Mr. Holland attempted to make a "U" turn to get into the southbound lane and turned in front of Mr. Gregory. Mr. Gregory attempted to avoid Mr. Holland, but struck him in the driver's side door. Mr. Holland, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Both vehicles exited the right shoulder of the parkway and came to rest at the bottom of the hill at the tree line.
Both drivers were transported via ambulance to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment. Mr. Gregory was wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers involved.
The northbound lane was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
Trooper Cody Kromer investigated the collision. Sergeant Brian Duvall, Trooper Joe Bartolotti, CVE Officer John Sweeney, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department, South Hopkins Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, Hopkins County Emergency Management, and the EPA assisted at the scene.
