Officer Involved Shooting in Barren County

(Bowling Green, KY) -- On Monday, September 08, 2014, at 9:12 A.M., Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green was contacted by the Barren County Sheriff's Office regarding an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 10000th Block of New Bowling Green Road in Barren County.
According to investigators, the Barren County Sheriff's Office was called to an alleged stabbing complaint in the 600 Block of S Gassaway Road in Barren County. When officers arrived the alleged suspect, David Smith (22) of Bowling Green, KY had left the scene in a Maroon Chevrolet Equinox.
Barren County Sheriff's Office Deputy Kevin Wilson located the vehicle on New Bowling Green and initiated a traffic stop. Mr. Smith exited the vehicle armed with a pair of scissors and approached Deputy Wilson. Deputy Wilson deployed his Taser but it was unsuccessful and Mr. Smith continued toward Deputy Wilson. Deputy Wilson then shot Mr. Smith with his issued firearm. Mr. Smith then fled on foot before being apprehended by other members of the Barren County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Smith was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where he is being treated for non life threatening injuries.
Deputy Wilson has been placed on administrative leave by Barren County Sheriff Kent Keen.
The investigation is still ongoing.
