Kentucky State Police Investigating Fatal House Fire in Henderson County

(SMITH MILLS, KY) -- On Monday, June 22, 2015, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Henderson County Dispatch received several calls regarding a residential structure fire in the 1100 block of Newman Street in Smith Mills.
Smith Mills Fire Department and Henderson County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene. After the fire was extinguished, emergency responders located a unidentified body inside structure. Kentucky State Police Detectives and a KSP Arson Investigator were sent to investigate the cause. Currently, KSP is investigating this as a death and fire investigation. At this hour, it is too early for detectives to determine whether this fire is an act of arson, accidental or even suspicious or not.
The Kentucky State Police and Henderson County Coroner's Office will be sending the body for an autopsy but a specific date, time and location is being arranged at this moment.
This investigation is on-going by KSP Detective Mike Smith. He is being assisted by KSP Sergeant Jason Pagan, Sergeant Mitch Hampton, Henderson County Sheriff's Department, Henderson County Coroner's Office, Smith Mills Vol. Fire Department and Henderson County EMS.
