Assault 3rd Degree on Police Officer in Daviess County

(Henderson, KY) - On October 11, 2015 at approximately 12:55 AM Kentucky State Police assisted the Owensboro Police Department with a traffic stop at the intersection of 4th Street and Carter Avenue in the city limits of Owensboro. While Owensboro Police Department was investigating Cortney McCormick, of Owensboro, KY, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, Mr. McCormick fled on foot from the scene. Trooper and Officers with OPD pursued Mr. McCormick to the 3000 block of Ridgewood Drive when Mr. McCormick turned and assaulted pursuing officers. Mr. McCormick then fled again to the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Ridgewood Drive where he was taken into custody without further incident. Mr. McCormick was arrested, transported, and lodged at the Daviess County Detention Center on the charges of Fleeing and Evading 2nd Degree (On Foot), Resisting Arrest, Assault 3rd Degree – Police Officer & Probation Violation Warrant for Persistent Felony Offender II. Owensboro Police Department will carry additional charges for operating a motor vehicle under the influence as well as numerous traffic related offenses.
