Date of News Release: 10/24/2015
(Henderson, KY) - On October 23, 2015 at approximately 1940 hours, Post 16 received a call from Henry Butler on Bluff City Rd, Hebbardsville. He advised he just shot Freddy Gibson as Gibson was trying to break in his house. Trooper Scott, Trooper Settle, Sergeant Whittaker, Sergeant McKinney, and Lieutenant Bell responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Gibson drove to Mr. Butler's residence and confronted him. Mr. Butler retrieved a shotgun and discharged it, striking Mr. Gibson. Mr. Gibson was flown to St Mary's Hospital. Lt. Lonnie Bell continues the investigation.
KSP detectives believe this was not a random home invasion but rather a dispute between two acquaintances.
Gibson was in the process of breaking through the front door of Butler's residence when Butler discharged two rounds from his 20-gauge shotgun. Gibson then fled the scene where he wrecked approximately 1/2 mile from Butler's residence. Responding troopers located Gibson laying on the ground outside his vehicle.
Gibson is now listed in stable condition.
No charges are currently expected to be filed; however, this case will be presented to a grand jury once all the information is gathered.
The investigation is on-going.
