State Police Seize Narcotics Hidden in Cooler

(Eddyville, Ky.)- Two men were arrested after a Kentucky State Police Criminal Interdiction team located $100,000 in illegal narcotics. On Thursday, January 15, Trooper First Class T.J. Williams was conducting criminal patrol along Interstate 24 in Lyon County when he observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. After a traffic stop was made, Trooper Williams made contact with 34-year-old, Naptali Juarez of Baxter,TN. Juarez was accompanied by a passenger, Fransisco Ortiz, 34 of Mesa, AZ. After speaking with both men, criminal activity was indicated.
Trooper Brad Ramsey and Patrol K-9 "Oscar" arrived to assist with narcotics detection. Following consent from the driver, Troopers located a cooler which appeared to have been tampered with. A closer examination of the cooler revealed a false compartment between the outside and inside of the cooler which contained 5 lbs of marijuana, 10 oz of cocaine and 1.1 lbs of methamphetamine.
As a result, both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana > 5 lbs, Trafficking in Cocaine and Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Each were lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
