Single Vehicle Injury Collision on I-24

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle, injury collision that occurred on Interstate 24, at approximately the 77 mile-marker, on Friday, April 3, at 8:19 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Amber Russell, 19, Cadiz, was operating a 1997 Honda Civic westbound on I-24 when it appears that she fell asleep. The vehicle exited the left side of the roadway and traveled into the median. It struck the cable barrier and traveled approximately 150 feet before coming to rest against the cable barrier in the median.
Ms. Russell and her passenger, Kristin Boaz, 18, Princeton, were transported via ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Trooper Michael Dennis investigated the collision. Trooper First Class Jim McArthur and Hopkinsville/Christian County EMS assisted at the scene.
