Pursuit Leads to Arrest of Clarksville Man

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police has charged a Clarksville man with numerous offenses after a pursuit.

On Saturday, September 5, at approximately 11:29 p.m., Kentucky State Police and the Christian County Sheriff'ss Department were conducting a Traffic Safety Checkpoint on US 41A, near the 11 mile marker. Officers observed a vehicle approach the checkpoint in the right lane, but as officers approached the vehicle, the driver swerved into the left lane, forcing officers to move from his path. The driver, Carlos L. Washington, 31, of Clarksville, TN, accelerated northbound towards Hopkinsville and entered the northbound ramp of the Pennyrile Parkway. Kentucky State Police Sergeant Manzanares initiated a pursuit, with several other Troopers and Sheriff'ss Deputies assisting. Officers pursued the vehicle northbound and were able to catch up to him when he exited the parkway at the 9 mile marker. Washington stopped his vehicle halfway up the exit ramp and was taken into custody without further incident. Washington was lodged in the Christian County Jail and charged with:

  1. Disregarding signal of officer directing traffic and fleeing
  2. Wanton endangerment, 1st degree (police officer) 4 Counts
  3. Fleeing or evading police, 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  4. Disregarding traffic control device
  5. Operating on suspended or revoked operator'ss license
  6. Dui, 1st offense (aggravated circumstances)
  7. Failure of owner to maintain required insurance, 1st offense
  8. Failure to produce insurance card
