Elkton Man Charged with Assault 1st Degree

Elkton, KY (Todd County) - The Kentucky State Police has charged an Elkton man with Assault 1st Degree after conducting an investigation.
On Thursday, October 1, 2015, at approximately 1:37 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 2 was contacted by Elkton Police Department requesting assistance with a shooting in the city limits of Elkton. Upon arrival, investigators determined that Jayson Stewart, 20, Elkton, was handling a .22 caliber handgun when it discharged striking a juvenile in the neck. The juvenile was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center via Air Evac for treatment; currently listed in stable but critical condition.
Mr. Stewart was charged with Assault 1st Degree (B Felony) and lodged in the Todd County Jail.
Detective Billy Sumner is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Detective Lonnie Kavanaugh, Detective Luis Palmer, Investigator Scott Steward, Sergeant Nick Rice, and the Elkton Police Department.
