Collision Leads to Pursuit and Arrest in Cave City

(Cave City, KY) - On Monday, May 18, 2015 at approx. 12:14 am Trooper Graham Rutherford observed a black 1983 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck in a field at the intersection of KY 70 and Old Lexington Road in Barren County. The pickup appeared to have been involved in a collision at that location and Trooper Rutherford attempted to make contact with the operator. The operator of the vehicle, Travis Cox (24) of Cave City, KY observed Trooper Rutherford and began to flee east through the field, exiting through another section of the fence where he continued east on KY 70. Trooper Rutherford pursued Mr. Cox a short distance on Old Lexington Road where Mr. Cox exited the road and jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot into the Sunny Brook trailer park. After Mr. Cox fled from his vehicle on foot, his vehicle rolled back into the Trooper's cruiser causing damage.

Mr. Cox was located a short distance from the scene at his residence where he was placed under arrest and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), Fleeing and Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot), Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree (Police Officer), Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Failure to Render Aid or Assistance), Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol of Drugs 1st Offense, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Alcohol Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle Prohibited.

The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Graham Rutherford. He was assisted on scene by Trooper Justin Roundtree, Trooper Randy Chambers, Sergeant Laura Phillips, the Barren County Sheriff's Department, Horse Cave Police Department, and the Barren County Constable's Office.
