One Killed in a Collision on Nashville Road in Warren County

(Bowling Green, KY) - On Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at approx. 5:36 pm the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call of a three vehicle injury collision on US 31W Nashville Road at Morehead Road just south of the city limits of Bowling Green.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Jay Cottrell (25) of Woodburn was operating a 2000 GMC pickup and was traveling southbound on Nashville Road behind a 2014 Dodge van being operated by Gwendolyn Menestrina (71) of Bowling Green who was also southbound and making a left turn into her residence. Cottrell swerved into the northbound lane to avoid colliding with the turning vehicle where he collided head-on with a northbound 1987 Chevrolet pickup being operated by William Cherry (67) of Woodburn. Cottrell's vehicle then spun and collided with Menestrina's van.

Cherry was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner's Office.

Cottrell was transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Menestrina was not injured in the collision.

The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper Michael Wathen where he was assisted by Trooper Kevin Mayfield, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Roy Murley, the Warren County Sheriff's Department, Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department, Bowling Green Fire Department, and Medical Center EMS.
