KSP Troopers Arrest Arkansas Murder Suspect

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY.) - Kentucky State Police Troopers along with Munfordville Police Officers arrested Trent Tyrone Smith (41) of Saline Co. Arkansas after a 20 mile pursuit on Northbound I-65. On Thursday, June 18, 2015 at approximately 5:45 EDT KSP Post 3 Bowling Green and the Munfordville Police Dept. acting on information from officials in Arkansas, attempted to stop Mr. Smith on Northbound I-65 at the the 70 mile marker. Mr. Smith was entered as a fugitive for multiple offenses including Attempted Murder in Arkansas. The suspect refused to stop for Police vehicles and was driving in a reckless manner. KSP Post 4 Troopers attempted to deploy tire deflation devices at the 86 and 88 mile markers Northbound on I-65. The suspect went completely off the roadway at both locations and nearly struck two KSP Troopers while attempting to avoid the devices. He then lost control of his vehicle at the 88 mile marker and struck a concrete barrier where he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Smith was later charged with being a Fugitive from another state, Attempted Murder-Police Officer (2 counts), Fleeing or Evading Police (1st Offense), DUI (1st offense), Possession Of An Open Alcohol Beverage Container In a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Reckless Driving, Failure To Or Improper Signal, and Improper Lane Usage. He was lodged at the Hardin Co. Detention Center. There were no injuries reported.
