One Dead, One Injured in Bluegrass Pkwy Accident

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY.) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown worked a fatality accident just East of Elizabethtown on the Bluegrass Pkwy. Sunday evening. On September 27, 2015 at approximately 6:00 P.M. EDST, Joel Stegner (20) of Fort Thomas, Ky. was traveling East on the Bluegrass Pkwy around the 8 mile marker in a 2006 Ford Focus. For unknown reasons, his vehicle left the North side of the roadway and traveled through the median and into the West bound lanes of the Pkwy. Michael Sinclair (58) of Washago, Canada was headed West on the Bluegrass Pkwy on his 2008 BMW motorcyle. Mr. Sinclair was unable to avoid Mr. Stegners vehicle and struck him in the driver’s side door causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Mr. Sinclair was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin Co. Coroner. Mr. Stegner was mechanically extricated from the vehicle and flown to University of Louisville Hospital with life threatening injuries. KSP was assisted on the scene by Hardin Co. EMS, Hardin Co. Coroner’s Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Elizabethtown Fire Dept, Central Hardin Fire Dept, and Airmethods. The accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Brandon Brooks.
