KSP Investigating Accidental Shooting in Graves County

(Hickory, KY) - At approximately 12:45 PM, Kentucky State Police responded to a residence in Hickory, KY, due to an apparent accidental shooting. The preliminary investigation shows that Graves County Sheriff's Office Sergeant David Warner returned home at the end of an overtime shift; and, as he was unloading an off-duty firearm, accidentally discharged one round. His 17 year-old step-daughter, who was standing in the path of the projectile, was struck by the bullet. The injuries sustained were non-life threatening, and the juvenile victim was transported by Mayfield Fire and EMS to Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah. At this time, the victim is reported to be in stable condition. Sheriff Dewayne Redmon of the Graves County Sheriff's Office requested the Kentucky State Police handle the investigation, due to it involving a member of his department. The investigation continues by Detective Brett Miller of the Kentucky State Police.
