KSP Investigating Fatal Collision on KY 181

GREENVILLE, Ky. (June 28, 2016) - The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, fatality-collision that occurred on KY 181, approximately four miles north of Greenville, on Tuesday, June 28, at 1:30 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Barry Travis, 53, Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2012 International tractor-trailer northbound on KY 181. Daniel L. Bruce, 59, Bremen, was operating a 1995 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on KY 181, several vehicles behind the tractor-trailer.
As Mr. Travis was making a left turn into the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center, Mr. Bruce accelerated and attempted to pass the vehicles that were traveling in front of him. The motorcycle struck the driver's side of Mr. Travis' tractor.
Mr. Bruce was transported via ambulance to Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. Mr. Travis, who was wearing seatbelt, was not injured.
Trooper First Class Jerry Knight is investigating the collision. KSP Post 2 units, KSP CVE, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center Fire Department, and Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.
