Kentucky State Police Warns of Possible Scam
Date of News Release: 3/7/2018
Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) – The Kentucky State Police is advising the public of a possible scam.
The Kentucky State Police and the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department have received complaints of a scam involving a residence for rent/lease in Greenville. The “owner” of the residence has posted the home for rent/sale/lease on social media. When victims contact the “owner” in reference to the residence, the victims are advised to wire them money to various locations within the United States.
Once the money is received, the victims are told their keys were seized by US Customs due to the delivery person being arrested. The “owner” then wants the victim to send more money in order to get the keys from evidence.
There is a great possibility for this suspect to have posted this, or similar scams, in various sites on social media which have not yet been located/identified.
The Kentucky State Police advise to never give out personal information to anyone that you are not familiar with. To report a possible scam, please contact the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville at 1-270-676-3313 or contact your local law enforcement agency.
