Post 16 Christmas Fatality Report

(Henderson, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 16 district is glad to report that we did not have a single fatal for this holiday reporting period.
Across Kentucky, there were 13 fatalities from December 22, 2005 through December 26, 2005. Of the 13 fatals, 10 were not wearing a seatbelt, 1 was belted, and 1 unknown seatbelt usage and 1 was killed when trying to load a piece of heavy equipment onto a trailer. The trailer over-turned killing the operator.
For 2005, statewide 960 people have died on Kentucky's roadways. Kentucky has lost 549 people not wearing a seatbelt, compared to 238 belted. A total of 227 alcohol related fatalities, 53 pedestrians killed, 67 unknown seatbelt usage, 36 motorcyclist, 13 bicyclist, 3 deaths with a child in a child restraint seat. We are just one behind last years total of 961 deaths on our roadways.
For the upcoming New Year's, the KSP Post 16 will be working federal overtime to ensure that motorist are safe. We will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints and targeting the unsafe driver's. Speed enforcement and roving patrols will be used to target high crash areas.
The Kentucky State Police need your help! TO report a suspected drunk drive pleas contact the ASP at 1-800-222-5555 or 1-270-826-3312. Give the license plate number, direction of travel, a description of the vehicle. You do not have to give your name.
