Fire Investigation at the Harlan County High School
Date of News Release: 08/25/2008
(Rosspoint, KY) - On 8/25/2008 at 7:35 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call to investigate a fire that occurred sometime during the night at the new Harlan County High School. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a small fire started on the third floor and set off the fire suppression system, extinguishing the fire and only causing minor damage. The State Fire Marshalls Office was contacted to assist with the investigation and it was determined that the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature. Assisting at the scene were Troopers Walt Szczepan and James Hensley as well as the Harlan County S.O., and Harlan Fire Department. The Kentucky State Police are asking that anyone that has any information about this incident, please call Post 10 at 606-573-3131. This case is still under investigation by Detective Mike Cornett Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
