Arrest After Fleeing/Evading Police in Boyd County

(Ashland, KY) - On 8/1/08 at approximately 2340hrs Post 14 Troopers and Boyd County Sheriff's Deputies were conducting a traffic checkpoint on Roberts Drive in Summit. Robert B. McKnight Jr., came through the checkpoint in a black Toyota Pickup and was advised to stop but took off at a high rate of speed. Mr. McKnight Jr., side swiped a vehicle on Donta Road while fleeing from police and continued on.
Three subjects in the vehicle that was struck were transported to Kings Daughters Medical Center by Boyd County EMS where they were treated and released with minor injuries. Mr. McKnight Jr. continued on Donta Road where he wrecked into a garage at the junction of Route 5.
Mr. McKnight Jr. was trapped and had to be extricated by Summit Fire Department. He was then transported by Boyd County EMS to Kings Daughters Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Mr. McKnight Jr., was arrested by Trooper Eric Gibson and lodged in the Boyd County Jail charged with DUI 3rd Aggravating Circumstance, Fleeing and Evading Police in Motor Vehicle 1st, Assault 2nd, Wanton Endangerment 2nd, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Wear Seat Belt, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, No Registration Receipt, Criminal Mischief 1st, And Driving On DUI Suspended License 1st.
Both accidents remain under investigation by Trooper Eric Gibson.
