Attempted Escape Investigation

Date of News Release: 07/23/2008

(Columbia, KY) - An incident occurred 6 miles south of Columbia on KY 61 at approximately 1:22p.m. while being transported from Cumberland County District Court, inmate Kelly Roop, age 20, of Salem Virginia, was able to free herself from handcuffs and attempted to escape by overtaking another inmate which was also being transported. The transportation officer was able to detain the inmate until law enforcement arrived at which time she was taken into custody without further incident. Ms. Roop was charged with Attempted Escape 1st Degree, Kidnapping, Assault 2nd Degree, and Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree. She was lodged in the Adair County Jail. Kentucky state police are investigating the incident.
