Stats From Post 2 For September 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of September 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:

• Arrested 100 Drunken Drivers
• Issued a Total of 2,317 Citations
• Issued 900 Speeding Citations
• Issued 304 Seatbelt Citations
• Issued 26 Child Restraint Citations
• Issued 968 Courtesy Notices
• Investigated 85 Crashes
• Assisted 181 Stranded Motorists
• Answered 1,185 Calls For Service
• Opened 72 Criminal Cases
• Made 271 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in September 2008. Five (5) people were killed as a result of the crashes. One (1) triple-fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg County. Single fatality crashes occurred in Crittenden and Hopkins Counties. Four (4) victims were not wearing seatbelts and one (1) victim was wearing a seatbelt.

Through September 30, 2008, thirty-one (31) people have been killed in twenty-six (26) crashes in the Post 2 District. Twenty-two (22) victims were not wearing seatbelts, six (6) victims were wearing seatbelts and three (3) victims were not wearing a helmet. Five (5) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through September 30, 2007, thirty-six (36) people had been killed in thirty-five (35) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
