Stats From Post 2 For October 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of October 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:
**There was one (1) fatal crash reported in the Post 2 District in October 2008. One (1) person was killed as a result of the crash. One (1) single-fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg County. It is unknown if the victim was wearing a seatbelt. The crash involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through October 31, 2008, thirty-two (32) people have been killed in twenty-seven (27) crashes in the Post 2 District. Twenty-two (22) victims were not wearing seatbelts, six (6) victims were wearing seatbelts, three (3) victims were not wearing a helmet and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown. Six (6) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through October 31, 2007, forty (40) people had been killed in thirty-nine (39) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
