Fatal Collision on US31E in Hart County

Date of News Release: 03/17/2008

(Bowling Green, KY) - Betty Spencer was traveling south on US31E and attempting to make a left hand turn on KY 218 East. Ms. Spencer pulled her vehicle into the path of Millard Melton Jr., vehicle who was traveling north on US 31E. Millard Melton Jr., stated he attempted to avoid Ms. Spencer's vehicle but was unsuccessful. Ms. Spencer's vehicle was struck by Mr. Melton's vehicle in the right front side. Upon disengagement Ms. Spencer's vehicle struck Michael Simpson's vehicle who was stationary on US31E south, in the front driver side coming to final rest facing south on US31E. Mr. Melton's vehicle came to final rest facing north on US31E. Betty Spencer was pronounced deceased at the scene by Coroner Jeff Roten. Investigation continues.
