News Release

Officer Involved Shooting in Milton, KY

Date of News Release: 06/25/2008

(Campbellsburg, KY) - At 11:57 P.M. the Kentucky State Police responded to a reported disturbance situation in Milton, Kentucky. Upon arrival officers made contact with Deborah Dressman, from Milton, Kentucky at a location apart from the residence. Dressman had minor injuries resulting from the assault and was taken to the local medical facility in Madison, Indiana.

The officers then responded to the residence in Milton for further investigation into the complaint and to locate the suspect Jack D. Berressem Jr., age 47, from Louisville, Kentucky. Berressem presented a weapon to the police and began to repeatedly fire the weapon at responding Troopers. Berressem then barricaded himself in the residence and periodically exited the building to fire upon the officers. At approximately 2:30 A.M Berressem again exited the residence and approached the officers at close proximity and began to fire upon the officers who returned fire fatally injuring Berressem.

Pursuant to KSP policy Lieutenant Fred Williams and Sergeant Howard Rice will be on administrative duty pending Investigation.

Lieutenant Fred Williams is a 10-year veteran with the Kentucky State Police. Sergeant Howard Rice, a 10-year veteran with the Kentucky State Police.

Officers from the Kentucky State Police Post were assisted on scene by the Trimble County Sheriffs department.

The investigation is ongoing.
