New Castle Shooting & Arrest

Date of News Release: 07/07/2008

(Campbellsburg, KY) - On Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 3:24 P.M. the Kentucky State Police responded to the city limits of New Castle, Kentucky in Henry County in reference to a reported shooting incident.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Joseph D. Burch age 31 from New Castle, Kentucky was shot by Robert Steven Elston age 54 of New Castle, Kentucky. Mr. Burch and Mr. Elston who are reported acquaintances, were involved in a verbal argument just prior to the shooting. The incident took place on the grounds of the apartment complex where Mr. Elston resides in New Castle. Mr. Burch was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henry County Coroner. Mr. Elston was taken into custody at the scene without incident and has been charged with Second Degree Murder.

The case is currently under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Kevin Johnson.
