News Release

Criminal Mischief Investigation and Arrest in Paris, KY

Date of News Release: 04/29/2008

(Dry Ridge, KY) - Kentucky State Police, Post 6, Dry Ridge, received a complaint this morning at 0634 hours regarding suspicious activity around a vehicle in Millersburg, KY. A passerby saw a white male lying underneath a 1999 Jaguar XJ6. When the passerby asked the man what he was doing, the male took off running on foot and was subsequently picked up by another vehicle. The passerby provided the license plate number of the getaway vehicle which was instrumental in locating the suspect. When troopers arrived on the scene, it was learned that the suspect was attempting to cut out the catalytic converter from the vehicle.

At 1036 hours State Police Detective Clint Graves, and Officer Bill Hurst of the Paris Police Department located the suspect at the Marathon convenience store on US 27 south, in the city limits of Paris, KY. Arnold Ace Powell, age 30, of Millersburg, KY was charged with Criminal Mischief 1st. Powell was unable to complete the theft, but did cause substantial damage to the converter. The estimate for repair was $3,474. State Police recovered a jack and sawsall from the area around the Jaguar believed to be used in the attempted theft. Powell was lodged in the Bourbon County Jail. Criminal Mischief 1st requires property damage in excess of $1,000. Criminal Mischief 1st is a class D felony, punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison.
