News Release

Fatal Traffic Collision in Pike County

Date of News Release: 09/01/2008

(Pikeville, KY) - On 8/31/2008 Post 9 received a call of a single vehicle accident on an unopened portion of highway that is currently under construction in the Robinson Creek area of Pike County. Michael Prater was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed when he struck the median and lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Mr. Prater was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injures as a result of the accident. David E. Blackburn, a passenger in the vehicle was transported to Pikeville Medical center with non life threatening injuries. Toxicology reports are pending, and the accident remains under investigation by Trooper Derek Sturgill and under reconstruction by Detective Eddie Crum.
