
Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Mercer County
SALVISA, Ky. (July 18, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) have been requested by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 17, 2025, just before 11:00 p.m. in Mercer County.
Troopers and Detectives from KSP Post 7, Richmond, responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates MCSO was attempting to serve a warrant at a residence when the suspect, identified as Troy Simmons, 53 years old, of Mercer county, attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle. He collided into a MCSO’s cruiser, at which time a deputy discharged his agency-issued weapon into the suspect’s vehicle.
Mr. Simmons was arrested and is lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center, charged with Attempted Murder of a First Responder along with other criminal offenses.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
