Kentucky State Police Open Missing Person Investigation in Pike County

UPDATE (May 24.2019)

Just after 11:00 AM the body of Paris Smith was recovered in the river. The location was in the area behind Big Lots in Coal Run This investigation remains open.

UPDATE (May 23 2019) the search for Paris Smith (47 years old from Joe’s creek in Pikeville) continues on the river, as of 3PM there is no change in the status of the case.

(May 23 2019) Kentucky State Police has opened a missing person investigation in Pikeville for a person missing after going Kayaking in the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River.

 

Around 10PM last night, a group of people was kayaking on the river when they became separated. A search was initiated for the missing person, and continued through the night and into this morning with the person not being located.

 

Several emergency and rescue agencies are on the scene as the search continues. The area of the search starts at the boat ramp behind the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Pikeville and continues north toward the Floyd County line.
