Kentucky State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Bourbon County

PARIS, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 6 Dry Ridge to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, shortly before 7 p.m. in Bourbon County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Paris Police Department (PPD) attempted to stop a vehicle that had fled from officers earlier the same evening in Fayette County. The vehicle initiated a pursuit by failing to stop for the PPD officer. The PPD successfully used a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle pursuit to an end on Second St. in Paris. After the vehicle pursuit ended, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Timothy Stone, 48 years old from Lexington, Kentucky, exited the vehicle armed with a gun, which he fired. Officers fired their weapons in response striking Mr. Stone, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Mr. Stone was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. KSP detectives and the CIRT responded and began an investigation into the incident, which remains ongoing.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
