Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Franklin County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2026) -The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 12 Frankfort to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, around 5:51 p.m. EST in Franklin County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that officers from the Frankfort Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a ‘shots fired’ call at a residence on Ridgeview Drive.  Upon their arrival, officers encountered Mr. Bryan Radford, 56 years old, of Hopkinsville, Ky. Mr. Radford entered the residence and reemerged armed with a handgun. Officers discharged their agency-issued weapons, fatally striking Mr. Radford. First aid was attempted, but Mr. Radford succumbed to his injuries.  No officers were injured during the incident. 

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines for completing investigations vary depending on the complexity of the case.
