LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred Feb. 3, 2026, in Fayette County.
The suspect has been identified as Brooks Janzen Plemmons, a 40-year-old male from Clemmons, NC. He remains in critical condition at Albert B. Chandler Hospital.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 12 Frankfort to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred today around 4:30 p.m. EST in Fayette County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that officers from the Lexington Police Department (LPD) received information about an individual with outstanding felony warrants from Forsyth County in North Carolina and attempted to make a traffic stop near the intersection of Alumni Drive and Yellowstone Parkway. During the attempted traffic stop, three LPD officers discharged their agency issued weapons, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to Albert B. Chandler Hospital and remains in critical condition. A firearm was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle. No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
