Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Boone County

RICHWOOD, Ky. (June 13, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team has been requested by Boone County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred June 12, just after 1:30 p.m. EDT. Troopers and detectives arrived on the scene and initiated an investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates that BCSO was requested to respond to a residence on Saunders Lane in Richwood. The caller informed the dispatcher that gunshots were being fired from within the residence. After arriving at the residence, deputies encountered an individual who had barricaded inside the residence and had a firearm. Officers attempted to communicate and negotiate a peaceful resolution with the individual, but were unsuccessful. The individual within the residence, later identified as Mr. Mhammed Jibrini, 47-year-old male from Richwood, began firing the gun in the direction of the officers. Multiple officers discharged their agency-issued firearms, striking Mr. Jibrini and causing life-threatening injuries. Shortly after, Mr. Jibrini surrendered without further incident. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

No officers were injured during the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts have been gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
