Kentucky State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Daviess County
OWENSBORO, Ky. (Sept. 3, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by Post 16 Henderson to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, around 10:48 p.m. CDT in Daviess County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) responded to a residence on New Cut Road in Ohio County for a welfare check involving a possible domestic violence threat. Deputies made contact with Tracy Peace, 37, at her mother’s residence on 726 New Cut Road in Whitesville, Ky. Ms. Peace told deputies she was okay and did not anticipate any issues with her estranged husband.
Later that day, Peace’s estranged husband, Jonathon Severs, 30, of Owensboro, Ky., arrived at the residence. The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Severs shot a resident in the home and then placed Ms. Peace in his vehicle and fled the scene.
A short time later, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputies located Severs in the New Cut Road area, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Near the 9700 block of Morgantown Road, Severs’ vehicle collided head-on with a DCSO patrol vehicle.
Following the collision, gunfire was exchanged between Severs and DCSO deputies. Severs was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene. Ms. Peace was also found deceased inside the vehicle.
The OCSO is investigating the shooting that occurred at the New Cut Road residence. The victim was transported by air to University of Louisville Hospital and remains in critical condition.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
