Citizens Police Academy

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) “Citizens’ Police Academy provides an excellent opportunity for citizens, who work or live in Kentucky to become familiar with the day to day operations of the Agency. This will enable participants to gain a better understanding of the guidelines, procedures, responsibilities, demands, personnel, equipment, policies and laws that guide the Agency’s decision making process.

The academy is not intended to turn citizens into police officers. It does however, allow citizens to learn more about the police operations. Citizens will become better informed as to the actual role of the police and in return, the police will benefit from the wealth of knowledge that citizens are able to share regarding their communities. Classes meet on Monday evenings at 5:30 p.m. at KSP Post 5 located at 160 Citation Lane, Campbellsburg, KY 40011.

Students will receive instruction from certified troopers.  A  graduation ceremony for the participants will be held on the last night of class.  Participants will also be encouraged to ride along with a trooper during one of their shifts.  This experience will provide first-hand    knowledge of what it is like to “work the street” in a cruiser.  This is a 10-week Academy that is offered once a year.
