Earlington, KY (Hopkins County)- – On February 19, 2018 at approximately 10:33 P.M., Trooper Jacob Stephens initiated a traffic stop on a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox with only one headlight in the city limits of Earlington.
The vehicle had also been observed driving carelessly.
When Trooper Stephens made contact with the operator, Michael Wimberly, 37, of Hopkinsville, he detected the odor of alcohol coming from Wimberly’s breath. After field sobriety tests were completed, Trooper Stephens determined Mr. Wimberly was operating his vehicle under the influence.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and an open alcohol container. In another area of the vehicle, Trooper Stephens discovered a bag containing suspected marijuana, and several smaller bags containing approximately 2 ounces, total, of suspected methamphetamine.
Michael Wimberly was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center where he was charged with the following:
1.) One Headlight
2.) Careless Driving
3.) Failure to Produce Insurance Card
4.) Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle Prohibited
5.) DUI
6.) Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
7.) Possession of Marijuana
8.) Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense- (> 2GMs Methamphetamine)
9.) Trafficking in Marijuana (Less than 8 OZ.) 1st Offense
