Kentucky State Police Investigation Leads to Guilty Murder Conviction in Christian County

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (November 5, 2025) – Following a Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 investigation, a man has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

On December 9th, 2021, KSP began an investigation after a deceased female was located in an abandoned vehicle on KY-124 (Cerulean Road) in Trigg County. The deceased female was identified as 34-year-old, Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville, KY. The investigation into Marcel’s death led detectives to a residence on Clearman Court in Hopkinsville.  A search warrant was conducted on the residence of Marcel where detectives located a deceased male, identified as 35-year-old, Stanley Bussell also of Hopkinsville.  Bussell was the registered owner of the vehicle Candace Marcel had been located in.  Hopkinsville Police began investigating the death of Bussell as a homicide.  As a result of both investigations, Hopkinsville Police Department arrested 49-year-old Bobby Spikes of Hopkinsville, charging him with the murder of Stanley Bussell. Further investigation led KSP to also charge Bobby Spikes with the murder of Candace Marcel.

On September 15th, 2025, a jury trial began in Christian County Circuit Court. Following the four-day trial, the jury convicted Bobby Spikes of two counts of murder, two counts of robbery 1st degree, tampering with physical evidence, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Bobby Spikes, now 53 years old, was sentenced today to life in prison without parole.

KSP would like to thank Hopkinsville Police Department for their collaboration on this case.
