UPDATE: Kentucky State Police Post 1 Joins National Operation C.A.R.E. For Super Bowl Sunday

High-visibility enforcement tackles impaired driving and promotes safe travel

***UPDATE*** MAYFIELD, Ky. (February 9, 2026) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 participated in Operation C.A.R.E. on Super Bowl Sunday to help keep roadways safe as many Kentuckians traveled for watch parties and gatherings.

Post 1 troopers conducted two traffic safety checkpoints and multiple saturation patrols as part of Operation C.A.R.E. Not including contact made with drivers at the checkpoints, troopers conducted over 40 independent traffic stops. Those traffic stops resulted in 9 courtesy notices, 28 citations, and 3 arrests. One arrest was for DUI while the other two were for racing on a public roadway and wanton endangerment.

Only one minor injury collision was reported to KSP Post 1 yesterday.

We would like to thank everyone who did choose to celebrate safely and responsibly.

MAYFIELD, Ky. (February 6, 2026) – As thousands of Kentuckians travel to watch parties and gatherings for Super Bowl Sunday, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) on February 8 to help keep roadways safe. Operation C.A.R.E. is a nationwide initiative by the International Association of Chiefs of Police designed to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities through proactive enforcement and public education. With increased traffic expected on Super Bowl Sunday, troopers will be monitoring for impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt violations.

“Our goal is straightforward—stop crashes before they ever occur,” said KSP Post 1 Captain Joey Adams. “Celebrating the Super Bowl should never end in tragedy. When drivers make smart, responsible decisions, they help protect lives and keep families in our community safe.”

During the enforcement effort, troopers will be highly visible on interstates, parkways and local roadways. KSP encourages motorists to make safety part of their Super Bowl plans by following these reminders:

Make Transportation Arrangements – If alcohol will be involved, decide how you’re getting home before kickoff. Use a sober driver, rideshare service or public transportation.

Slow Down and Leave Space – Speeding and tailgating significantly increase crash risk, especially during nighttime travel. Allow extra time and following distance.

Buckle Up – Seatbelts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury in a crash.

Watch for Others on the Road – Be alert for impaired drivers, pedestrians and emergency responders, particularly after the game ends.

Motorists who observe a driver they believe may be impaired or driving recklessly are encouraged to contact their nearest KSP post or local law enforcement agency.

The Kentucky State Police reminds everyone that safe decisions on the road help ensure Super Bowl Sunday ends with celebration, not tragedy.
