Kentucky State Police Post 1 Recently Arrested Two Men Following Two Separate Pursuits in Lyon County
EDDYVILLE, Ky. (June 28, 2026) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 troopers have recently arrested two individuals following two separate pursuits occurring in Lyon County.
On Thursday, June 25, at 9:19pm CT KSP Post 1 troopers were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint at US 62 and Industrial Park Road in Lyon County when troopers observed a pickup truck make an illegal U-turn in a no passing zone on US-62. Trooper Dunigan attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but as he approached the vehicle, the operator turned onto Pleasant Valley Road, then turned the vehicle headlights off before turning them back on and rapidly accelerated. Trooper Dunigan had his emergency lights and sirens activated when the operator of the pickup truck, later identified as Robert Amburgey, continued accelerating and initiated a pursuit. After approximately 2.5 miles, Mr. Amburgey failed to negotiate a curve and was involved in a single vehicle collision in the 1100 block of Pleasant Valley Road. Mr. Amburgey was taken into custody, provided first aid care by troopers on scene and transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Robert Amburgey, 59 years old of Eddyville, KY was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Evading Police-1st Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Controlled Substance, No Operator’s License, and numerous additional traffic offenses.
On Saturday, June 27, at 2:45pm CT, KSP Post 1 received a call of a two-vehicle injury collision on I-24 westbound near the 50 mile marker in Lyon County. Troopers were told that one of the vehicles involved left the scene of the collision and continued westbound on I-24. Trooper Engler observed the vehicle that had left the scene, an orange Hyundai Santa Cruz, traveling westbound just west of the exit for KY-293. As Trooper Engler activated his emergency near the exit for US-62, the operator, identified as Richard Rogers, exited onto US-62 then turned right onto Majors Loop, slowing, before then turning right back onto US-62 and accelerating eastbound, initiating a pursuit. Mr. Rogers continued eastbound on US-62 then turned onto Goodman Road. He traveled to the end of Goodman Road onto private property where he attempted to turn around but ultimately became stuck in a pond on the property where was then taken into custody without further incident. Richard Rogers, 55 years old of Nashville, TN was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Evading Police-1st Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Substance, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment-2nd Degree-Police Officer, Disregard Traffic Control Device, Following Another Vehicle Too Closely, Driving Too Fast For Conditions, Speeding 25mph Over the Limit, Operating on Suspended/Revoked License, Driving Without a License-Negligent in an Accident, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Mischief-2nd Degree, Criminal Trespassing-3rd Degree, and Reckless Driving. He was additionally served with a pre-existing warrant for Driving Under the Influence.
KSP was assisted by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Eddyville Police Department, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources-Law Enforcement Division, and Eddyville Fire Department.
