Kentucky State Police Post 1 Welcomes New Post Commander

MAYFIELD, Ky. (September 3, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 is proud to announce the arrival of new Post Commander, Captain Joey Adams, a 26 year veteran of the agency.

While Captain Adams is new to the roll of Post Commander, he is no stranger to Post 1. A native of Carlisle County, Captain Adams began his career as a trooper in July of 1999 upon graduation from KSP Cadet Class 76. He was first assigned to Post 8, Morehead before coming home to Post 1 in 2001. Captain Adams remained at Post 1 for 17 years, serving 14 of those years as a Sergeant. Captain Adams has held the ranks and titles of Trooper, Detective, Squad Sergeant and Administrative Sergeant at Post 1. In September 2018, Captain Adams transferred to the Division of Forensic Services, where he served as the Commander, supervising all six forensic laboratories and the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Investigative Team. While in the Division of Forensic Services, Captain Adams promoted to Lieutenant in September of 2019 and then Captain in September of 2021. After 7 years away at the Division of Forensic Services, we are excited to welcome him back home to Post 1.

Before beginning his career with KSP, Captain Adams obtained his Associate Degree from Paducah Community College and his Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. Captain Adams also served a combined 5 years with the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office and Paducah Police Department, graduating with class 250 of the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy in 1996.

Captain Adams has served a noteworthy career filled with awards and accomplishments. He has received two KSP Commissioners Commendation Awards. He was named the Four Rivers Behavior Health Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officer of the Year in 2010 and 2013 and the NAMI Kentucky CIT Officer of the Year in 2014. In 2016 he received the Four Rivers Behavioral Health Lovey Raburn Award. In addition to these awards, he is a Collision Reconstructionist and certified Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Instructor.

As we welcome Captain Adams to his new role as the Post 1 Commander, we also congratulate his predecessor, Major David Archer, on his recent promotion. After 5 years as the Post 1 Commander, Major David Archer will now serve KSP as the West Troop Major, overseeing operations among the 8 post districts in the west half of the commonwealth.
