Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Rockcastle County

MOUNT VERNON, KY – (December 10, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Post 11 London is conducting a death investigation in Rockcastle County following a barricade of an armed subject with multiple warrants. 

The initial investigation indicates Marvin Gabbard, 42 years old of Mount Vernon, KY, barricaded himself in his residence on US-25N yesterday, after law enforcement attempted to serve an EPO and felony arrest warrants on him. KSP learned Gabbard was armed and inside the house, resulting in a barricade. After multiple attempts were made requesting Gabbard exit the residence, KSP entered and located Gabbard deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Kentucky State Police Detective James Royal is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Post 11 personnel, the Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Vernon Police Department, Rockcastle County Constable, and the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team.
