Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatality In Rockcastle County

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at approximately 3:06 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 11 received a call from Rockcastle County 911 regarding a collision at the 63-mile marker southbound on Interstate 75.

Preliminary investigation indicates Rex A. Loveless, 58 years old, was operating a 2021 Dodge Charger southbound on Interstate 75 north of Mount Vernon. According to the passenger, Melinda Loveless, Mr. Loveless pulled onto the right shoulder of the roadway and began complaining of pain. Mrs. Loveless stated the vehicle subsequently rolled off the shoulder and struck the rock wall.

Rockcastle County EMS transported Mr. Loveless to Rockcastle Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:03 p.m.

Mrs. Loveless was not injured in the collision. Next of kin was present at the scene.

Trooper Calder is continuing the investigation.
