Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Wayne County

MONTICELLO, Ky. (March 02, 2026) – On Saturday, February 28, 2026, at approximately 1:36 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London received a call from Wayne County 911 regarding a collision that occurred on KY90 near Hall Rd.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Christian Vanover, 26 years old of Monticello, KY, was operating a 2025 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on KY90. According to witnesses, Mr. Vanover was navigating traffic when he collided with the rear of a 2008 Honda Odyssey operated by Cynthia Smith, 57, of Somerset, Ky. After the collision, Mr. Vanover then left the roadway and went down an earth embankment. Mr. Vanover was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Mr. Vanover was taken via Wayne County EMS to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and later transferred to the University of Kentucky hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Ms. Smith and the passenger of her vehicle did not receive any injuries from this collision. This incident remains under investigation.
