Kentucky State Police Investigates Bus Collision in Whitley County

CORBIN, Ky. (April 7, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 in London is investigating an injury collision in Whitley County that occurred on Monday, April 6, 2026, on the Cumberland Falls Highway at the intersection of Ward Cemetery Road at around 3:00 p.m. EDT.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Whitley County Sheriff’s Department (WCSD) police cruiser was traveling on the Cumberland Falls Highway, with all emergency equipment activated, in response to a separate accident .  A Whitley County School bus attempted to turn on Cox Smith Road from Cumberland Falls Highway when she pulled into the travel path of the WCSD police vehicle and the two vehicles collided.

Several children were taken to Baptist Health in Corbin with minor injuries and were later released. The WCSD Deputy was treated for minor injuries and released.

This collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jack Riley. Trooper Riley was assisted on scene by Oak Grove Fire Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, and Whitley County EMS.
