Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Collision in McCreary County

STEARNES, Ky. (July 23, 2025) – On July 22, 2025, at approximately 12:51 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London received a report of a single-vehicle injury collision on US Highway 27 in the Stearns community of McCreary County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a gray 2008 Toyota 4Runner, operated by Pearl Goodin, 68 years old of Parkers Lake, KY, was traveling southbound on US 27 when the vehicle exited the roadway on the southbound shoulder and struck a guardrail. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The McCreary County Coroner pronounced the driver, Pearl Goodin, deceased at the scene. The passenger, James Goodin, 73 years old of Parkers Lake, KY, was transported by McCreary County EMS to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by the attending emergency room physician.

Next of kin have been notified. Toxicology results are pending for both occupants, though drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors at this time.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Shane Bowling. He was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 11 London personnel, McCreary County EMS, McCreary County Coroner’s Office, McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, and North McCreary County Fire Department.
