Kentucky State Police Post 11 Investigates a Murder in Clay County

BUNCOMB, Ky. (September 19, 2026) — The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 London is investigating a fire after remains were located inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound.

On September 17, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m. EST, KSP Post 11 London was contacted by Clay County 911 requesting assistance at a barn fire on KY577. Initial first responders on the scene located an unknown male in the fire debris with an apparent gunshot wound to their head. KSP was then contacted and requested to investigate the incident.

The following morning on September 18, 2026, an autopsy was performed on the victim, and he was identified as Nathaniel D. Carter, 40 years old, of McKee, KY. Through investigation, detectives located and interviewed Dalton S. Bowling, 28 years old, of Manchester, KY. Mr. Bowling was then arrested and charged with Murder.

This investigation is being led by Detective Logan Gay and is still ongoing at this time. Foul play is suspected. Det. Gay was assisted on scene by KSP personnel, the Clay County Coroner’s Office, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Burning Springs Fire Department, and Forgertown Fire Department.
