
Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Lexington
Lexington, KY. (May 6, 2021) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 12 has been requested by the Lexington Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 5:30 pm EST on May 1 in Fayette County.
As previously released by Lexington Police Department on May 1, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Marshall Lane for a report of shots fired. While officers were in route, the Division of Enhanced 911 received additional calls about a subject outside the residence shooting a firearm. An officer arrived and immediately observed gunfire. In response to the subject firing a weapon at the officer, the officer returned fire striking the subject. The officer was not injured.
At this time, KSP has conducted interviews of vital witness and officers, and can release the names and ages of those involved in the incident.
The subject has been identified as Ryan D. Jones (DOB 11/10/99) and is currently charged with Burglary 1st, Wanton Endangerment 1st x 8, Kidnapping x 8. Additional charges are pending.
The Lexington Police Department officer who discharged his agency issued fireman is Officer Franklin Epley, 3-year veteran of the department. The officer will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation per the Lexington Police Department’s policies and procedures.
No officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.
KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP policy not to release any additional details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.
