Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Woodford County

VERSAILLES, Ky. (June 10, 2023) –The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 12 is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Friday June 9, 2023, at approximately 4 P.M. The Collison occurred in the area of the 64 mile marker on the Bluegrass Parkway in Woodford County.

A 2015 Ford Explorer operated by Justin Vanderwater, was traveling West on the parkway.  When approaching the 64 mile marker, Vanderwater veered into the emergency lane, striking a pedestrian that was attempting to strap cargo down on a trailer.

Heather M. Sowers(44 years of age) of Nicholasville, was pronounced deceased on scene and next of kin has been notified.  Justin Vanderwater was arrested and lodged in the Woodford County Detention Center and the investigation is ongoing.

Charges are listed as followed.

1.  Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol 1st offense

2.  Wanton Endangerment 1st

3.  Vehicular Homicide
